Backup OutLook 2007 Profile Information on Windows XP

Introduction

If you have multiple profiles within your Outlook 2007 mail client you may wish to backup them up incase you ever have to rebuild your PC or otherwise transfer your mail settings to another PC.

NOTE!This article doesn't apply to backing up the actual mail messages. These are held else where, for example on your microsoft exchange or IMAP server or in a local message store such as a .PST file.

NOTE!This article requires you enter your computers registry to export some settings. This is perfectly safe AS LONG AS YOU ARE CAREFUL.

Step 1. Open the registry Editor

Go to Start -> Run

In the box "Open" box type

regedit

run regedit

Step 2. Navigate to the Outlook profile settings in the registry

In the left hand pane of the registry editor navigate to this path

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles

Step 3. Export this setting

Right click on the profile and lcik export. Choose an apporopraite file name and save.

That'd done you can put this on a USB or network for safekeeping and you have your mail profile information kept backed up.
